Major port project in Vietnam's central economic hub Danang nears 70% completion
After more than 20 months of construction, a project to build shared infrastructure at the Lien Chieu Port in Danang has completed 67.31% of the work.
Lien Chieu Port is a key project that the central city of Danang has called for investments in. It is also one of three deep-water seaports in Vietnam, planned as a special facility capable of receiving general cargo ships and bulk carriers of up to 100,000 tons, and container ships of 6,000-8,000 TEUs.
The shared infrastructure construction is a major component of the port project, with a total investment of VND3.43 trillion ($138.4 million).
Work on the project started in late 2022 and is expected to be completed in November 2025. It is constructed by a consortium comprising Phu Xuan Consultation and Construction JSC, Lung Lo Construction Corporation, Truong Son Construction Corporation, and Xuan Quang Construction JSC.
The completed workload of 67.31% is equivalent to VND1.77 trillion ($71.44 million). Specifically, the completed portion covers: embankment construction (66.1%); dredging of ship channels (66.8%); and roads and drainage systems (68.4%).
According to Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, the project is being implemented on schedule and should be completed by the end of 2025.
National Assembly Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 identifies Lien Chieu Port as a priority project for attracting strategic investors, with a comprehensive investment plan worth at least VND45 trillion ($1.82 billion) for the seaport.
On September 1, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected several Lien Chieu Port infrastructure construction works.
He said that the port was a key project that has captured the interest of large corporations from around the world, including India, Holland, and Japan.
The PM stressed the need for investors fully capable of implementing the key project. He urged relevant units to expedite work on site clearance, resettlement and retraining for affected local residents.
In addition to the shared infrastructure project for Lien Chieu Port, Danang is also developing a coastal road that connects to it. This project, with a total investment of VND1.2 trillion ($48.3 million) sourced from central and municipal budgets, began implementation in September 2023.
