Inventec, a Taiwan-based supplier for Apple, is set to launch a research and development and supply chain complex at the Hanoi Southern Supporting Industrial Park (HANSSIP) in the second quarter of 2024.
Inventec chairman He Daishui made the statement at a meeting with Hanoi Mayor Tran Sy Thanh on Friday. He urged municipal authorities to facilitate the project in terms of administrative procedures, immigration of foreign experts, and use of solar power at the factory.
In reply, Thanh said Hanoi always welcomes foreign high-tech investments and the capital city, with its advantages in infrastructure and a high-quality workforce, has lured investments from many global giants like Samsung, which inaugurated its largest Southeast Asia R&D center worth $220 million in Hanoi last December.
In July 2022, Inventec injected $30 million into its subsidiary Inventec Appliances (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., or an accumulation of $33 million. Besides, the Vietnamese subsidiary has kicked off the construction of a factory in Quang Minh Industrial Park, Me Linh District, Hanoi.
In December 2022, Inventec announced an investment of $23.12 million in its HANSSIP factory, covering 16.16 hectares.
Vietnam is emerging as Apple’s next production hub. Quanta, which supplies top American brands like Apple, Dell, and HP, is mulling over plant construction to mainly produce orders for Apple MacBooks.
Taiwan-based Foxconn signed a deal in Vietnam last August to rent an additional 50.5 hectares of land in Quang Chau Industrial Park in Bac Giang province near Hanoi. The Apple supplier plans to develop a new project with an investment estimated of $300 million.
Compal Electronics, a supplier to Apple, Amazon, and Dell, signed a deal on December 16 to lease 40 hectares of land in Thai Binh province for its new $260 million investment to build a factory.
Vietnam is already home to facilities of major assemblers of Apple products like Foxconn, Pegatron, Wistron, Luxshare Precision, Compal Electronics, Goertek and BYD. Among them, Foxconn, Luxshare, and Compal are mainly responsible for MacBook and Apple Watch assembly, while Luxshare and Goertek are major AirPod suppliers.
