With the long Independence Day weekend just around the corner, Vietnamese travelers are looking forward to hitting the roads and the skies and making the most of the last long weekend of the year. The holiday is traditionally a time for family bonding before children go back to school.

Booking.com, one of the world’s leading digital travel brands, shares travel insights on where Vietnamese are traveling for the upcoming national holidays from September 2 to September 4, 2023.

Varun Grover, country head for Vietnam at Booking.com, said that long weekends offer a wonderful opportunity to take a much needed break from the daily grind for a quick, rejuvenating getaway.

"For the upcoming Independence Day weekend, we are seeing a surge in demand with Vietnamese travelers exploring staycations and drivecations to nearby places or indulging in a short break to closer-to-home APAC destinations," he added.

Regarding domestic destinations, according to the Booking.com Travel Confidence Index 2023, Vietnamese travelers enjoy beach destinations, with 61% choosing islands and beaches as their top places of interest for travel, followed by cities (60%).

This is reflected in the top 10 most-searched domestic destinations for the upcoming holiday, of which six out of the top 10 are beach destinations. Da Nang tops the Vietnamese travel destination list, followed by Vung Tau and Nha Trang among the most booked destinations for the Independence Day weekend. Da Lat ranks 4th, while Ho Chi Minh City ranks 5th. They are followed by Mui Ne, Hanoi, Ha Long, Phu Quoc, and Hoi An, respectively. 

When it comes to international destinations, Vietnamese travelers are searching for closer to home international destinations with Bangkok (Thailand) topping the most-searched list, followed by Singapore, South Korea. Taipei (Taiwan market), Hong Kong special administrative region (China), Tokyo (Japan), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Sydney (Australia), Ubud (Indonesia), and Chiang Mai (Thailand).
