EuroCham and the Ministry of Industry and Trade will host the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City from November 28-30.

The three-day event aims to promote sustainable development cooperation between Vietnam and the EU via dialogue, technology and expertise transfer, and investment.

It also seeks to help Vietnam in fulfilling commitments made at the COP26 and achieve socioeconomic goals per the national 2021-2030 green growth strategy, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said at a press conference in Hanoi Monday.

The three-day GEFE 2022 will comprise conferences, exhibitions, B2B and B2G matching sessions.

The ministry’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) and EuroCham signed Monday a memorandum of understanding on boosting cooperation in trade promotion and investment between Vietnamese and EU firms.

Vu Ba Phu, head of Vietrade, said Vietnam would soon build a legal framework on energy transition, carbon emission reduction and green growth, for which it would seek to learn from the EU’s experiences.

The EU is the fifth biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with $27.6 billion in registered capital, including $2.2 billion registered in the first eight months of this year, up 69.6% year-on-year.

Between August 2021 and July 2022, or the second year of the Europe-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), bilateral trade jumped 11.9% year-on-year to $61.4 billion. Vietnam earned $45 billion from exports, up 17% year-on-year; and spent $16.4 billion on imports, up 0.2%.
