Former trade ministry official arrested for accepting bribes

Nguyen Loc An, former deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's domestic market department, was arrested on Thursday for accepting bribes.

An, born in 1965 and now an ordinary official at the department, was found to be involved in a criminal case of "receiving bribes; violating regulations on the management and use of state assets, causing losses and wastefulness" at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Bach Khoa Viet Trading-Consulting-Investment-Construction JSC and related units, according to the Ministry of Public Security's investigative agency (C03).

The C03 also arrested Tran Trac Viet Duc, 33, director of Bach Khoa Viet company; and Do Thi Tuyet Nga, 44, chief accountant at the firm, on the charge of "violating regulations on management and use of state assets, causing losses and wastefulness".

The agency is further investigating the case and taking legal measures to recover appropriated assets.

In July, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced Tran Hung, former deputy director of the trade ministry's general department of market management, to nine years in prison for accepting a bribe of VND300 million ($12,700) in a scam involving “fake” textbooks.
