Four suffocate to death in Miwon factory accident

Four workers of South Korean MSG and fish sauce maker Miwon Vietnam Co. Ltd. suffocated to death in the northern province of Phu Tho Monday evening, witnesses said.

Four workers of South Korean MSG and fish sauce maker Miwon Vietnam Co. Ltd. suffocated to death in the northern province of Phu Tho Monday evening, witnesses said.

The accident took place in the factory’s boiler area at around 6 p.m. Two workers fainted when cleaning a boiler and three more suffered the same fate after several workers rushed to rescue the first two.

Rescue forces arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later and took the victims out. Three workers were found dead and another two were taken to the hospital, where one more succumbed to asphyxiation.

Phu Tho Vice Chairman Ho Dai Dung has ordered Miwon Vietnam to work with the victims' families to ensure their legitimate rights. He has also asked local police to investigate the accident quickly.

Previously, on June 19, three workers died from burns following an accident at the Danish-backed ScanCom Vietnam factory in Binh Duong province, southern Vietnam.

A fire broke out inside a wood and sawdust storage facility at ScanCom Vietnam Co., Ltd., a producer of outdoor furniture, in Song Than 1 Industrial Park, Di An town.

The workers were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, with three severely burnt transferred to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, where two died on the same day. The third succumbed to injury one day later.
