The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City's District 3 launched Nguyen Thuong Hien food street on Wednesday evening.
The street, running between Dien Bien Phu and Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets, will open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day and be closed to cars. Residents and tourists will be able to leave their vehicles at nearby parking places.
Pham Thuy Hang, vice chairwoman of the District 3 People's Committee, said that Nguyen Thuong Hien has many culinary business households, especially for takeaway and fast food, serving a wide range of diners.
In total it has 143 business establishments, of which 92 serve food, including hu tiu (noodle soup), banh mi ( (Vietnamese sandwich), milk tea, banh trang tron (rice paper mix), and nem cha (spring rolls). The 51 other households deal in clothes, shoes, hairdressing, etc.
In 2019, Time Out, a UK-based magazine with a global readership, voted the area one of the 20 most livable neighborhoods in the world, prompting the district to ensure safe and stable business, and develop transport infrastructure.
