Mercedes plans to deliver its new flagship electric car EQS to Vietnamese customers in October to become the second luxury EV brand in the market after Porsche.

The German automaker is set to introduce the Mercedes EQS at Vietnam Auto Show 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City. Deliveries to buyers are also scheduled for that time, but the selling price has not been disclosed.

Mercedes has built the EQS as an enduring rival to its S-Class of luxury cars, while it still builds the S-Class.

As for the Vietnamese market, the German carmaker will have charging stations at authorized dealers, or buyers will be able to get a charging station installed at home by the firm.

For the next phase after the first, Mercedes will weigh the possibility to build public charging stations and DC (direct current) fast charging systems, depending on sales volumes.

According to Mercedes, which has a manufacturing facility in HCMC, the basic EQS 450+ has a monstrous 770 kilometers of maximum range. The selling price for it in Germany is equal to VND2.7 billion (almost $118,000).

In the Vietnamese market, popular EVs already available are cars made by Vietnamese firm VinFast and Korea’s Kia.
