Seven dead in northern Vietnam cement company accident

A serious accident occurred at Yen Bai Cement & Minerals Joint-Stock Company in Yen Bai province on Monday, killing seven people.

Tran Huy Tuan, Chairman of Yen Bai People’s Committee, confirmed the news to local media, adding that the province would release more details soon.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on a stone crushing line at a cement factory located in Yen Binh district and owned by Yen Bai Cement & Minerals Joint-Stock Company.

According to a press release from the people's committee, the accident occurred during periodical maintenance and repair of the stone crusher.

Three other workers were also reported injured, and are being treated at Yen Bai General Hospital where they are in a stable condition, it reported.

The cause of the accident was initially determined to be a problem with the crusher’s electric motor.

Yen Bai’s Party Committee chief Do Duc Duy, Chairman Tuan, and other provincial leaders were quickly on the scene to direct emergency measures.

Local authorities and the company are actively supporting the victims’ families. At the same time, an urgent investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, according to the people’s committee.
