A delegation of The Investor paid a two-day working trip to the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang ending Thursday to present scholarships to students in Pho Cao and Sang Tung communes, Dong Van district.

On Wednesday, the delegation was received by Nguyen Van Son, Ha Giang's Party chief and Chairman, who shared information about the province's investment attraction in 2023 and future orientations.

The next day, the delegation visited two schools in the communes of Pho Cao and Sang Tung and delivered 50 scholarships worth VND25 million ($1,020) from the publication's ‘Golden Heart” Fund to students from disadvantaged families with outstanding academic performances.

The delegation also awarded VND10 million ($407) to outstanding teachers at the Pho Cao primary and secondary school and Sang Tung primary school.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, editor-in-chief of The Investor, said that Ha Giang, which borders China, witnessed a heroic 10-year (1979-1989) struggle to protect Vietnam’s northern border. Despite many changes, the lives of people in remote border areas continued to be very difficult, with transportation being a big problem, he noted.

“In order to motivate poor students to overcome difficulties and hardships to become literate, the delegation did not hesitate to travel a long distance to bring the “golden hearts” of investors to students and teachers here,” he said.

Tuan added that he hoped the gesture would provide both “material and spiritual” encouragement to students and teachers in highland areas.

Provincial officials said Pho Cao and Sang Tung were two impoverished communes with poor transport infrastructure.

In Sang Tung commune, 50% of the population belong to poor households, and many live as far as 13 kilometers away from the school. Besides, many schools in the locality still lack clean water and basic boarding facilities, they said, hoping for continued assistance from sponsors.
