Toyota Vietnam delivers 47% growth in H1 sales

Automaker Toyota Vietnam sold almost 44,000 cars, including Lexus ones, in the first half of 2022, recording a 47% surge year-on-year.

The January-June period saw the Vios sedan and Corolla Cross SUV frequently in the top 10 best-selling car models in the Vietnamese market. Toyota Vietnam reported sales of 11,937 Vios and 10,913 Corolla Cross in H1.

The subsidiary of Japan’s Toyota sold 901 Lexus cars in the period, putting the total accumulated sales of the luxury brand in Vietnam at 814,128 as of the end of this June.

Toyota Vietnam opened three new dealers in the period, raising its dealership total across Vietnam to 81.

The carmaker’s exports of components and spare parts created $37 million in revenue, up 11% year-on-year. The company paid $615 million to Vietnam’s budget in the first half, a 54% rise.

The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), which does not include VinFast and Hyundai, sold 201,840 autos in the first half of this year, increasing by 34% year-on-year.

The association’s January-June sales report shows sales of passenger cars surged 50% to 157,935, but that of commercial vehicles down 5% to 40,498, while sales of special-purpose vehicles up 12% to 3,407.
