Vietnam Airlines has highest delay rate in 2022

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines had the highest delay rate in 2022, involving 12.5% of flights.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines had the highest delay rate in 2022, involving 12.5% of flights.

The carrier operated 115,987 flights in the year, with 14,486 delays, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam's (CAAV) data announced on Monday.

It is followed by Vietjet Air with 11.5%. The remaining carriers in order are VASCO, Vietravel Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and Bamboo Airways.

In 2022, Vietnamese airlines operated 312,841 flights. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air continue to be the two "big guys" leading the market share, with 115,987 flights and 115,349 flights, respectively.

Bamboo Airways ranked next with 51,959 flights, Pacific Airlines with 16,567, VASCO with 8,084, and Vietravel with 4,895.

The number of flights taking off on time across the whole industry reached 280,581, accounting for 89.7% of the total number.

The rate of flight delays across the industry was 10.3%, equivalent to 32,260 flights.

Statistics from the CAAV show that the two main causes of flight delays in the past year were late plane arrivals (67.6%) and airlines (14.2%).

In 2022, there were 1,155 canceled flights, accounting for 0.4%. Of this, Vietnam Airlines canceled 715 flights, Vietjet 266, VASCO 92 flights, Bamboo Airways 64, and Viettravel and Pacific Airlines, both nine.
