Vietnam has been named among the world's eight budget-busting destinations perfect for family holidays by leading Australian travel site Traveller.

"Explore hawker markets, slurp pho, ride a buffalo or take a fun cooking class," it wrote.

"Vietnam’s not only a fun, adventurous family destination - it also offers terrific value thanks to the strong Aussie dollar and cheap flights with airlines including Bamboo Airways, Jetstar and newly launched VietJet Air," it commented.

The travel site suggested: "Take a Vespa tour through bustling streets, cycle rice fields and swim at languid beaches dotted along the country’s gorgeous coastline."

"You can dine for next to nix at street stalls and small shops selling banh mi, Vietnamese pancakes and noodles, and live like royalty at luxurious hotels and resorts offering bargain rates," it added.

Other destinations in the list are: Bali (Indonesia), Fiji (Southwest Pacific), Yeppoon (Australia), Port Stephens, NSW (Australia), Queenstown (New Zealand), Vanuatu (Southwest Pacific), and Gold Coast (Australia).

Early March, Vietnam had been named among 21 "life-changing trips everyone should experience at least once" by New York-based travel magazine Travel + Leisure.

"A trip through Southeast Asia is a must for any traveler, especially foodies who love street eats. While you could spend weeks in each of these countries, Thailand and Vietnam can easily be paired for an exciting trip packed with lush scenery, cultural experiences, and delicious food," it wrote.

In mid-February, the Traveller had ranked Vietnam among 20 of the world's best-value destinations. Previously, the country had been named among the 20 best slow travel holidays for 2023 with "a salubrious wellness journey" by this travel site.
