The association’s January-June sales report shows sales of passenger cars surged 50% to 157,935, but that of commercial vehicles down 5% to 40,498, while sales of special-purpose vehicles up 12% to 3,407.

For June alone, VAMA members’ total sales decreased 42% from May to 25,159 vehicles due to a lack of spare parts and components, like semiconductors and chips, all over the world.

Among non-VAMA members, Hyundai TC Motor supplied 36,397 vehicles to the market in the first half, up 6.5% year-on-year, while VinFast sold 14,695 cars in the period.

Hyundai TC Motor, VinFast, and other carmakers blamed June’s decreased sales on the global semiconductor crisis and lack of chips, the impacts of the pandemic, and uncertainties in some regions.
