Vietnam’s top telco Viettel debuts 5G chipset, human AI

Vietnamese telecom giant Viettel officially announced its 5G chipset and human artificial intelligence (AI) named Vi An on Monday, the opening day of the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) in Barcelona, Spain.

This marks the seventh time Viettel has participated in the MWC as the only technology representative from Vietnam. At the event, Viettel is set to present 17 products in network infrastructure, cloud computing infrastructure, digital platforms and future technologies.

At the MWC 2024, Viettel announced the 5G DFE chip developed entirely by in-house semiconductor engineers. The chip boasts a computing capability of one trillion operations per second, meeting the 3GPP's standard for 5G and comparable to the top 10 semiconductor companies' 5G DFE chips worldwide.

Viettel also presented an automated network optimization system that enhances operational efficiency, reduces energy consumption and automatically resolves issues for both 5G and 4G networks. This system is currently being comprehensively deployed and optimized in Vietnam and 10 other countries where Viettel has invested.

Under the digital application/service group, Viettel showcased AI applications for customer interaction, financial services, and entertainment. Vi An, the first human AI from Vietnam, introduces a novel user interface for AI.

Viettel, the biggest telecom business in Vietnam with a 56.5% market share, made a consolidated revenue of VND172.5 trillion ($6.99 billion) in 2023, up 5.4%.

Besides mobile phones as its core service, Viettel is also the leader in Vietnam in fiber to the home (FTTH) service with 43% of the market share, and multimedia television with 8.6 million customers, or 31.2% of the market share.

Viettel has deployed 5G services with 500 stations on a trial basis across Vietnam and a 5G mobile network.
