Vestas, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer, considers Vietnam one of the Danish giant’s significant markets worldwide, its president and CEO said.
Henrik Anderson, in his meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on May 22 on the sidelines of the 52nd World Economic Forum in Davos, said Vestas is ready to discuss and partner with the Vietnamese government to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of Vietnam’s energy industry.
The president and CEO of Vestas added he hoped Vietnam would soon complete its Power Development Plan VIII, which focuses on energy transition, and roll out a stable pricing mechanism for renewable energy.
Khai said the government is completing the power plan. Accordingly, Vietnam's total power demand is more than 100,000 megawatts by 2025, and 150,000 MW by 2030. Of which, renewable energy demand by 2025 is more than 36,000 MW, and 50,000 MW by 2030. On average, renewables would account for more than 30% of Vietnam’s total electricity demand.
The government of Vietnam encourages foreign investors to join the country’s renewable power development process, the deputy PM added.
Late this March, Vestas announced it had secured a 100 MW order in Vietnam for an undisclosed project. The order covers supply, supervision of the installation, and commissioning of wind turbines. With this project, the giant’s total capacity of onshore wind turbines in Vietnam will surpass 1.6 GW.
The Danish producer and developer added that the wind farm, located near the shorelines of the Mekong Delta, includes 24 Vestas V150-4.2 MW wind turbines, all with a hub height of 105 meters.
The order also includes a 15-year active output management service agreement for the wind farm to ensure optimized performance and long-term business case certainty for the customer.
The customer and project names are undisclosed, but Vestas said commissioning of the wind farm is planned for the fourth quarter of 2022.
