MPI deputy minister faces disciplinary action
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Thanh Thong faces disciplinary action for his violations and shortcomings under a decision signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday.
The decision was inked nearly four months after Thong was disciplined by the Party.

In January 2022, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission warned Vo Thanh Thong, member of the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s (MPI) Party Committee, MPI Deputy Minister, former Deputy Secretary of Can Tho’s Party Committee and the city's former Chairman, for his violations.
The inspection agency found that the Party Committee of Can Tho People’s Committee had violated the Party’s principles and regulations as well as working regulations, lacked irresponsibility, and showed loose leadership.
The violations gave rise to the city People's Committee and a number of organizations and individuals violating the Party’s regulations and the State’s laws in the procurement of medical equipment and medicines, and in the implementation of hospital upgrading and innovation projects. Many cadres and Party members in Can Tho were disciplined or penalized as criminals.
The above-mentioned violations "have led to serious consequences, causing great losses to the state budget and adversely affecting the reputation of the Party and the city government."
The Party Committee of Can Tho’s Health Department in the 2015-2020 term was also warned for its violations.
Vo Thanh Thong was appointed Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment in May 2019, while serving as Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee. Previously, he held the positions of Director of the city’s Department of Finance, Vice Chairman of Can Tho People's Committee, and Secretary of Ninh Kieu district’s Party Committee.
