Global technology company ABB on Wednesday put online its new $6-million manufacturing hub in Vietnam providing electricity distribution solutions.

The new facility, which covers 15,700 square meters in the northern province of Bac Ninh, is replacing the firm’s 10-year-old facility here.

The plant is in place for future LEED certification, with roofing materials made for optimal thermal conductivity and rainwater collection, and ready for solar panels to be installed.

The manufacturing site is expected to annually supply 2,000 ABB Unigear medium voltage switchgears and 700 units of plug-and-play modular systems for power distribution. ABB said the production lines used at the plant are ones used for its European facilities.

“Our new high-tech and low-impact facility will bolster Vietnam’s economic growth and lay the foundations for a successful future for ABB in the region,” said Matteo Caiti, ABB’s distribution solution Asia hub manager.

ABB expects to export about half of the factory's supplies, shipping them to markets like Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, and Australia, while the other half is for the domestic market.
