Deputy industry minister appointed EVN chairman

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday appointed Dang Hoang An, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, as chairman of state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday appointed Dang Hoang An, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, as chairman of state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

An, born in 1965, obtained his bachelor’s degree in the Czech Republic, specializing in electricity, and a master's degree in electrical system management and business administration from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

Dang Hoang An will no longer be a deputy minister of industry and trade, the position he has held since May 2018.

An has held many management positions in the electricity industry, including deputy director of the National Load Dispatch Center (A0) from 1993 to 2004; head of EVN's electricity grid engineering department from 2004-2006; and deputy general director and general director of EVN.

The position of EVN chairman fell vacant after Duong Quang Thanh retired on May 1. Dang Huy Cuong, a board member, has held charge of the group since.

EVN reported a loss of more than VND20.7 trillion ($874.5 million) in 2022, according to financial statements audited by Deloitte.

EVN earned consolidated net revenues of more than VND463 trillion ($19.56 billion) in 2022, up 8% year-on-year. Of this, revenue from electricity sales accounted for more than 98% and the rest from sales of several products and services.
