The centrally-administered city of Can Tho in the Mekong Delta is seeking investment in two new urban area projects in Cai Rang district between now and 2030.

The first project is the Nam Can Tho new urban area covering 99.86 hectares in Hung Phu and Phu Thu wards, about four kilometers from the city center, while the second is a 42.2-hectare new urban area in Thuong Thanh ward.

The common goal of the two projects is to build a modern new urban area with synchronous technical and social infrastructure, meeting local housing and residential land demands as well as residents’ needs for commercial, cultural, educational, and sports services.

Can Tho now has 56 other projects attracting investment in the fields of industrial infrastructure, trade-services, urban development, agricultural infrastructure, water supply infrastructure, healthcare, education, culture, transportation, resources and environment, and social infrastructure. Of these, 21 involve urban development.

Among the large-scale projects are a 250-hectare center for linking production, processing and consumption of agricultural products across the Mekong Delta in Binh Thuy and Co Do districts; and the Vinh Thanh Industrial Park infrastructure investment project (phase 2), covering 600 hectares in Vinh Trinh commune, Vinh Thanh district.

The list also includes the 250-hectare O Mon high-tech Industrial Park infrastructure investment project in Phuoc Thoi commune, O Mon district; and the 244-hectare Can Tho high-tech agricultural project in Thoi Hung commune, Co Do district.

Can Tho is one of the five centrally-run cities in Vietnam, together with Hanoi and Hai Phong in the north, Danang in the central region, and Ho Chi Minh City in the south.
