The proposal, already sent to the Government Office and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, says the project would be located off Con Co Island, which is part of the central province.

The proposal followed another in late this July, in which the provincial administration wanted PDP VIII to include the 1-gigawatt Cam Lo wind project and 500 MW Gio Linh wind project, both on land.

Quang Tri is striving to attract investments into renewable energy development, especially wind power. To date, it has 19 operational wind farms with a total capacity of over 671 MW. Another 12 projects are underway, with nine under construction and three already receiving the green light to go.

In Ha Tinh province also on the central coast, Vietnamese steel maker IPC Group expects to get a nod to make surveys for an offshore wind project off Ky Anh town. The process is still in an early stage, and relevant details have not been disclosed.
