Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked Son La authorities to develop renewable energy as one of the measures to drive the mountainous province’s growth.

The PM, in his working trip to Son La late last week, required local authorities to boost service, tourism, and high-tech agriculture, as well as exploit wind and solar energy.

Chinh said he supported Son La’s proposal to increase the capacity of Son La hydropower plant from 2,400 megawatts to 3,200 MW, suggesting construction of a floating solar farm as part of the gigantic plant.

He requested the northern province to study and focus on the development of a green economy, circular economy, digital economy; accelerate economic restructuring; make the most of human resources; and promote cultural identity, innovation and startup projects.
