Vietnam Waste Solutions Co. Ltd. (VWS) is about to invest $700 million in a waste treatment project in Long An province with a designed capacity of 40,000 tons.

VWS, wholly-invested by the U.S.-based California Waste Solutions (CWS), Inc., is preparing to update the waste-to-power technology at its Da Phuoc integrated waste management facility in Ho Chi Minh City and implement the new project at the Long An Green Technology Park in Long An, said Huynh Lan Phuong, vice CEO of the firm, on Wednesday while hosting a delegation of the HCMC Union of Business Associations (HUBA).

David Duong, chairman and CEO of CWS and VWS, said that American billionaire venture capitalist Douglas M.Leone is scheduled to visit Vietnam in March to look at investment opportunities in VWS and Vietnam. He added he is willing to connect businesses of the two nations.

The Long An Green Technology Park project, after its approval in 2008, was delayed until 2010. Notably, after the construction of bridges VWS01 and VWS02 and link roads were completed in March 2019, the project implementation was halted.

In July 2020, Long An province prepared to convert 1,600 out of 1,760 hectares designed for other purposes, particularly for investments in industry, urban area, and commerce. The province explained that originally, the waste treatment project was designed to bury waste, demanding a large area, but now modern technology can be used to burn waste in a much smaller area.
