VN-Index hits 8-month high with improved liquidity

The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), gained 6.84 points, or 0.61%, to 1,125.3 on Thursday, the highest level since October 2022.

The major bourse’s trading value hit VND18.6 trillion ($790.6 million), up 6% from the previous session. There were up to 314 tickers gaining and 114 losing.

The VN30 index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest-cap stocks, rose 5.53 points to 1,117.6, with up to 20 tickers gaining and seven losing.

Banking stocks showed positive performance as BID of BIDV increased 1.27%, CTG of VietinBank 1.03%, STB of Sacombank 2.04%, VIB of Vietnam International Bank 1.8%, EIB of Eximbank 1.2%, and LPB of LienVietPostBank 1%.

The real estate group also closed in green, with VHM of Vinhomes expanding 2.01%, NVL of Novaland 1.03%, KDH of Khang Dien Holding 2.45%, DIG of DIG Corp 6.22%, DXG of Dat Xanh Group 4.23%, DXS of Dat Xanh Real Estate Services JSC 5.14%, and SZC of SONADEZI Chau Duc Shareholding Company 3.33%. Notably, QCG of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai Corp and NBB of NBB Investment hit their ceiling prices.

Stocks of manufacturing companies traded well. HPG of steel giant Hoa Phat went up 1.02%, VNM of Vinamilk 0.9%, MSN of Masan Group 0.26%, DGC of Duc Giang Chemicals 3.61%, DCM of Petrovietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer JSC 4.13%, and DPM of Petrovietnam Fertilizer & Chemicals Corp. 3.46%.

Aviation codes also took off with VJC of Vietjet gaining 0.21% and HVN of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines 4.12%.

Meanwhile, securities, energy and retail stocks saw a divergence.

Foreign investors were net buyers on the HoSE for the second session to the tune of nearly VND100 billion ($4.25 million). They mainly net purchased HPG, VCB of Vietcombank, and HDB of HDBank.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse gained 0.14 points to 231.91, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market inched up 0.05 points to 85.5.
