Northern Vietnam province Quang Ninh has new Party chief
Vu Dai Thang, a Party Central Committee member and Party chief of Quang Binh province in central Vietnam, has been assigned as Party chief of Quang Ninh province for the 2020-2025 term.

The assignment decision by the Politburo, Vietnam’s highest decision-making body, was announced by the provincial Party Committee on Saturday.
Thang, 49, was born in Phu Dong commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi. He holds a master's degree in international relations and used to be director of the Department for Economic Zones Management under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
He was later elected as Vice Chairman of the Ha Nam province People's Committee before returning to the MPI as a deputy minister.
In 2016, Thang was elected as an alternate member of the 12th-tenure Party Central Committee. In August 2020, he was assigned to be Party chief of Quang Binh province for the 2015-2020 term. In October 2020, he was re-elected for the 2020-2025 term.
Previously, Nguyen Xuan Ky had been relieved of his positions as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Party chief of Quang Ninh province per his wish.
After Ky stepped down, the Politburo assigned Quang Ninh's standing deputy Party chief Trinh Thi Minh Thanh to manage the provincial Party Committee.
Alongside Thanh, the current standing board of the provincial Party Committee includes deputy Party chief Cao Tuong Huy, who is also Chairman of the province, and deputy Party chief Dang Xuan Phuong, who is head of the provincial delegation to the National Assembly, the country's highest legislative body.
Quang Ninh, home to Ha Long Bay and the country's biggest reserve of coal, is emerging as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment.
Official local data shows that from 2021 to end-June 2024, registered FDI in the northern province had hit $8.43 billion, or 281% of the target for the 2021-2025 period. FDI disbursement in the same period reached $2.69 billion, or 134.5% of the plan.
