Hoang Thi Huong has been accused of failing to record nearly VND1.8 trillion ($68.22 million) in revenue in her accounting books and wrongly declaring value-added tax (VAT) on revenue of nearly VND2.1 trillion ($79.59 million).

The Ministry of Public Security's investigative agency on Friday initiated legal proceedings against a case and six people for “violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences”, including Hoang Thi Huong (commonly known as Hoang Huong), two brothers-in-law hers, and three employees.

The case was uncovered and investigated by the Environmental Police Department in coordination with the Investigation Police Agency, involving several companies and business households within the Hoang Huong business ecosystem.

According to the investigation, Huong established an extensive network of 18 companies, 25 business households, and 44 individuals under her system to trade in functional foods, health supplements, and other products.

To evade taxes, Huong allegedly directed her staff to record revenues under household businesses and individuals registering to do business.

Initial findings show that between January 2021 and June 2025, Huong concealed nearly VND1.8 trillion ($68.22 million) in revenue from accounting records and falsely declared VAT obligations on almost VND2.1 trillion ($79.59 million) in revenue.

Huong is the representative of multiple brands, including Hoang Huong Pharmaceutical JSC, Hoang Huong International Dental Clinic, and Hoang Huong bone and joint supplements.

Previously, in 2022, her company was fined VND65 million ($2,460) by the Food Safety Department for false advertising. Beyond her business activities, Huong has repeatedly stirred public controversy with inappropriate statements.

In 2023, she sparked outrage when she described ethnic H’Mong food specialties in Ha Giang province - such as men men - as “pig feed” and called local flower-service providers “beggars.” The backlash forced local police to summon her for questioning.

In 2020, Huong posted false information about flooding in Quang Binh province, which hindered relief efforts. Several other remarks of hers have been criticized for regional discrimination and offending communities.
