The Politburo, Vietnam’s highest decision-making body, has assigned Tran Luu Quang, a Party Central Committee member and Deputy Prime Minister, to be head of the Central Economic Commission.

Party General Secretary and President To Lam on Wednesday afternoon presented the appointment decision to Quang.

The Central Economic Commission is an advisory and assisting agency of the Party Central Committee (PCC), directly and regularly advising and assisting the Politburo and the Secretariat of the PCC in orienting the development and improvement of economic institutions; and in outlining important and major socio-economic guidelines, policies and measures.

Tran Luu Quang, 57, comes from Tay Ninh province. He holds a master’s degree in public management and mechanical engineering.

Quang is a Party Central Committee member for the terms 11th (alternate), 12th and 13th; and a member of the National Assembly, the country’s highest legislative body, for the terms 14th and 15th.

He has worked for a long time in Tay Ninh province. Quang used to be deputy director of the Tay Ninh Department of Planning and Investment; Party chief and chairman of Trang Bang district; and then Party chief and standing vice chairman of Tay Ninh province.

In February 2019, Quang became standing deputy Party chief of Ho Chi Minh City, and more than two years later, he was appointed by the Politburo to be Party chief of Hai Phong city.

In January 2023, the National Assembly approved the appointment of Quang to the position of Deputy Prime Minister.

Currently, the Central Economic Commission has three deputy heads including Nguyen Duy Hung, Nguyen Hong Son, and Nguyen Duc Hien.

On the same day, top Vietnamese leader To Lam handed over an appointment decision to Mai Van Chinh. Accordingly, Chinh, a Party Central Committee member and standing deputy head of the Central Organizing Committee, has been assigned to be head of the Central Mass Mobilization Committee.
