Crossing over the Thuan An estuary, the bridge stretches 2.36 kilometers in length and 20 meters in width, with main spans reaching 23.5 meters.
The Thuan An bridge is a central component of the coastal road project which runs approximately 21.8 kilometers through Thua Thien-Hue province, now called Hue city.
In phase 1, the project covers a 7.785-kilometer section - including the bridge - at a total cost of VND2.4 trillion ($92.3 million), funded by both central and local budgets.
The bridge is expected to open to technical traffic on September 2, 2025, with full project completion anticipated by the end of the year, contingent upon timely land clearance.
Once completed, the coastal road will seamlessly connect with Vietnam’s national coastal road network, fostering regional socioeconomic development and creating a scenic coastal tourism corridor along Hue’s shoreline.
Designed to stay within one kilometer of the coast, the route will promote the growth of coastal urban centers and enhance living standards for local residents.
It is also set to boost regional connectivity, facilitate North-South transportation, and strengthen links to seaports, economic zones, and key coastal industrial areas in central Vietnam.
It will enhance disaster preparedness, search and rescue capabilities, and the protection of lives and property during storms and floods.
The development is also expected to unlock around 1,500 hectares of coastal land for urban expansion, attracting investments in tourism, services, and resort development across Hue city.
Hue is home to the Imperial Citadel of Hue, a UNESCO-recognized heritage site.
