General Department of Taxation appoints acting chief

Mai Xuan Thanh has been appointed acting general director of Vietnam's General Department of Taxation from February 15.

Thanh, 54, born in Nam Dinh province, has more than 30 years of experience in the sector. He was deputy general director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs from May 2018.

Thanh graduated from the University of Finance and Accounting, majoring in industrial finance. He also has degrees in advanced political theory and and state management.

He worked at the General Department of Vietnam Customs from 1994, starting as an expert in the import and export tax collection inspection agency. He was later assigned as deputy head of the agency's tax calculation department, deputy director of the agency's anti-smuggling and investigation department, and director of Kien Giang province's customs department.

At the end of October 2022, former general director Cao Anh Tuan was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance and temporarily took charge of the General Department of Taxation.

The General Department of Taxation has four deputy directors: Phi Van Tuan, Dang Ngoc Minh, Vu Chi Hung and Vu Xuan Bach.
