The initiative was unveiled during the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit 2025 in Jakarta.

The project aims to convert organic waste into clean hydrogen, establishing a circular hydrogen economy in the region. Hyundai will collaborate with the Indonesian government and state-owned energy company Pertamina to implement this initiative.

Additionally, Hyundai plans to work with South Korean landfill developer Sejin E&E to rehabilitate the Sarimukti landfill in West Java, mitigating environmental risks.

Biogas generated from the site will be transformed into hydrogen using equipment supplied by Hyundai Rotem. Discussions are ongoing with West Java authorities to develop the necessary infrastructure in the year.

By 2027, Hyundai intends to complete the installation of hydrogen conversion systems and refueling stations on land provided by Pertamina.

The company also plans to expand its hydrogen technologies across the production, storage, and refueling chain through partnerships with the Korea Testing Certification Institute and the Institute of Advanced Engineering.

This marks Hyundai's first international expansion of its waste-to-hydrogen model, initially introduced at CES 2024.
