Construction major Xuan Truong looks to build airport in northern Vietnam
Xuan Truong, a prominent Vietnamese construction firm, has proposed developing an international airport in Nam Dinh province, which will be merged with Ninh Binh and Ha Nam provinces this year.
Under the firm's proposal recently submitted to the Ministry of Construction, the airport will be located in Y Yen district in Nam Dinh, or another site determined by the ministry.
The National Assembly, Vietnam's legislature, on June 12 passed a resolution that will reduce the country's number of provinces and cities from 63 to 34, effective immediately.
Accordingly, a merger of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh will lead to the establishment of Ninh Binh province, which borders Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, and the East Sea.

The company also seeks ministerial approval to develop two eight-lane expressways connecting the Trang An-Bai Dinh heritage complex in central Ninh Binh to the towns of Nam Dinh and Phu Ly.
The company plans to construct nine new bridges over the Day and Hoang Long rivers as part of a comprehensive infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming Ninh Binh into a national cultural and tourism hub. The proposed timeline for completing the roads and bridges is within 12 months.
Funding for the airport development would come from the new Ninh Binh provincial budget and private capital mobilized by Xuan Truong, the firm stated.
Xuan Truong Construction is well-known for developing large-scale spiritual tourism projects, such as the 12,000-hectare Trang An-Bai Dinh tourist area, the 5,200-hectare Tam Chuc tourism complex, and various transportation infrastructure works nationwide.
In the first four months of this year, Ninh Binh province received 5.6 million tourist arrivals, up 13.63% year-on-year, according to the local tourism watchdog.
