Korea’s KT Corporation to provide telemedicine in Vietnam

South Korean telecom company KT is set to launch a pilot telemedicine platform in Vietnam before the end-2022 in a partnership with Hanoi Medical University and Korean telemedicine firm HurayPositive.

The project serves as a trial period for KT to develop such full services in Vietnam within the next three years, the company said Wednesday.

The pilot platform will help watch those with chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure, enabling them to check their health conditions, medications and workouts, and be counseled by Vietnamese medical professionals.

KT said further conditions for the new business were being discussed with the Vietnamese government, drugmakers, dietary supplement makers and medical technology firms.

Hanoi Medical University, a leading medical training institution in Vietnam, and KT will also launch a joint research project to develop medical solutions for early detection of Alzheimer‘s disease, using KT’s artificial intelligence platform.

KT expects the business in Vietnam would pave the way for its service expansion to the neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

At present, South Korea does not legalize telemedicine services. However, the Korean government has temporarily allowed the use of telemedicine apps during the pandemic. KT said it would launch the services there when legalized.
