Lingerie model Ngoc Trinh arrested for disturbing public order
Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday detained 34-year-old Tran Thi Ngoc Trinh, dubbed the ‘underwear queen’ in Vietnam, for allegedly causing social disorder.
Police officers searched her house in Thu Duc city on the same day.
They also launched legal proceedings against Trinh’s motorbike instructor Tran Xuan Dong, 36, for using counterfeit documents of authorities and organizations, and causing social disorder. He has been put under house arrest in District 7.
The detainment came after police forces verified information about Trinh riding large displacement motorbikes and performing dangerous acts on roads in HCMC's Thu Duc city.
The investigation showed that Trinh, despite not having a license for driving large displacement motorcycles, rode a BMW motorbike with a cylinder capacity of 999 cm3 on October 6, together with Dong, on a road in the HCMC Hi-Tech Park in Thu Duc city’s Tang Nhon Phu B ward, performing dangerous acts, like lying and kneeling on the motorbike, while not wearing any safety gear. Then she posted images on social networks, causing public outrage.
In early September, Dong also helped Trinh drive a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle on Tran Bach Dang street in Thu Thiem urban area, Thu Duc city, performing similarly dangerous acts, like sitting on one side of the motorbike or letting both hands off the handlebars. These acts were also recorded and posted on social media.
Investigators found she posted five such videos on her TikTok channel which has 6.8 million followers. The posts received more than 478,000 likes, 4,881 comments and 5,787 shares.
The videos on one of her Facebook pages, which has 3.1 million followers, attracted 5,900 interactions, 438 comments and 266 shares. Another Facebook page with 5.9 million followers received 2.7 million likes for a video of her getting a leg injury from one ride.
Her videos were spread widely online with more than 240 Facebook posts, more than 650 articles on different websites, and more than 3,000 related YouTube videos, receiving strong public criticism, police found.
The police said the clips negatively affected public order and safety, as well as young people's lifestyle and thinking.
Expanding the investigation, they found that Dong, despite knowing the BMW's registration papers were fake, still bought it for Trinh due to its low price.
Ngoc Trinh, whose hometown is Tra Vinh province in the Mekong Delta region, is famous for her beauty and sexy fashion style. She started her fashion career when she was 16, and then competed in a beauty contest.
