This is the seventh extension by the junta since it took power in 2021.

Myanmar's Radio and Television Broadcasting said that the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) on Friday decided on the extension, which the NDSC said is necessary to ensure peace and stability for free and fair elections.

Myanmar first declared a state of emergency for one year in February 2021 before extending it six times, each for six months, until Friday, January 31 this year.
