New securities accounts fall to 3-year low
Vietnamese investors opened 22,740 new securities accounts in April, down more than 16,800 accounts compared to the previous month and a record low since February 2020.
In April, individual investors opened 22,638 new accounts while institutions had 102, according to data from the Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD).
As of the end of April, the total number of individual investor accounts in the country officially exceeded 7 million, equivalent to over 7% of the population.

On the other hand, foreign investors opened 43,465 accounts (including 39,068 individual accounts) in April, up 186 compared to March
Although the number of new accounts decreased, liquidity in April tended to increase compared to March. Specifically, the average trading value on Vietnam's three exchanges reached $514 million per session, up 29.9% compared to March.
Domestic retail investors traded actively again in April with a proportion of 85.4%, up 19.8% compared to March, higher than the 12-month average (82%).
The proportion of transactions of domestic institutional investors in April recorded a decrease of 0.3% compared to March and lower than the 12-month average. The proportion of transactions of individual investors and foreign institutions both tended to decrease in April and were lower than the 12-month average.
