Power Generation JSC 2 (EVNGENCO 2), a subsidiary under state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and Austrian technology firm Andritz have signed a deal to digitalize and maintain the former’s power plants.
The duo signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday as part of the Austria-Vietnam forum on infrastructure & technology cooperation. Under the deal, the Austrian firm will support the Vietnamese electricity company in upgrading the facilities, optimizing their efficiency, reducing losses, and boosting operations.
As of April, Evngenco 2 is the owner of and manages 11 hydropower and thermal power plants in Vietnam, with a total capacity of 4,461 megawatts. The cooperation between Evngenco 2 and Andritz is expected to aid the former’s target of becoming a digitalization-based firm in 2025.
Andritz, a top service provider for hydropower plants, says it has supplied over 31,900 turbines with a total capacity of 471,000 MW globally. In Vietnam, the firm has joined the installation of nearly 100 turbines with a total capacity of 3,000 MW.
Evngenco 2 produced over 16.2 billion kWh in 2022, accounting for 13% of EVN’s total output last year.
