Fireworks performance set for SEA Games 31 opening ceremony in Hanoi

A 15-minute fireworks display will be held during the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA (Southeast Asian) Games at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium on the evening of May 12.

A 15-minute fireworks display will be held during the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA (Southeast Asian) Games at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium on the evening of May 12.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the opening ceremony of this major regional sports event, hosted by Vietnam on May 12-23, 2022, with 40 sports. The 11 regional countries - Brunei, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam - will all participate.

The opening ceremony's message is "For a Stronger Southeast Asia", with perfomances by about 1,000 actors across a 7,000 square meter stage. It is expected that 10,000 athletes, coaches and 10,000-15,000 international visitors will come to Vietnam on this occasion.

Hanoi will be the main location for competitions. Other northern cities and provinces namely Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, and Phu Tho will also serve as competition venues.

This is the second time for Vietnam to host the SEA Games, with the first being in 2003.
