Hoiana golf tournament raises $473,000 for disadvantaged children in Quang Nam province
Hoiana Resort & Golf has raised over VND1.2 billion ($473,000) from a charity event to support disadvantaged children in the central province of Quang Nam.
Over 100 domestic and international golfers from various skill levels participated in the Hoiana Open Golf Tournament 2024 under the theme “Swing for Children of Vietnam” on Saturday.

They were divided into five groups, competing in the stroke play format on the 18-hole Hoiana Shores Golf Club (HSGC), which has been voted one of the 100 best golf courses in the world.
The event was cheered on by the surprise appearance of Sir Nick Faldo, the legendary British golfer, who was considered the best golfer in the world in the 1990s. He spoke to the players about his life in golf and donated some memorabilia and cash to the fundraising event.

After an entire day of competition, the Best Gross award went to Josh Chettleburgh, a 23-year-old golfer from New Zealand, with the lowest stroke of 71.
Beyond being a competition for golf enthusiasts, the tournament champions a noble cause: raising funds for underprivileged children and those living with disabilities in Quang Nam. The event garnered an overwhelming response from golfers and donors.
The donations will be distributed to the Quang Nam Charity Association, VinaCapital Foundation (VCF), and Kianh Foundation.
A significant portion will be directed towards enhancing the quality of life for disabled children at the Kianh Foundation Day Center in Dien Ban district. Part of the donations will also support six Brighter Path Girls Clubs recently launched by VFC in Quang Nam, which help empower ethnic minority female students there.
Two local schools - Nguyen Trai primary school and Nguyen Binh Khiem secondary school in Thang Binh district, will benefit from the remaining funds for infrastructural improvements via the Quang Nam Charity Association.

At the event, Rad Kivette, CEO of the VinaCapital Foundation (VCF), expressed his appreciation to Hoiana for their positive contributions to various programs since their very first day. Hoiana and VCF have coordinated more than 10 corporate social responsibility activities (CSR) and initiatives, with a total value exceeding VND8 billion ($315,600).
Steven Wolstenholme, president & CEO of Hoiana Resort & Golf, said: “Hoiana Shores Golf Club annually hosts and participates in charity events to support the less fortunate. We aspire for our upcoming tournaments to not only grow in scale but also amplify the spirit of giving and create meaningful changes within the community."
Since 2016, charitable activities conducted by HSGC have collected nearly VND5 billion ($197,270), constituting 20% of the total community contribution from Hoiana Cares – the resort’s CSR program.
The $4-billion Hoiana Resort & Golf is located on the four-kilometer pristine coastline in Quang Nam province, near two UNESCO world heritage sites - Hoi An ancient town and My Son sanctuary. The stunning beachfront complex offers more than 1,200 keys with four luxury hotels - the Hoiana Hotel & Suites, New World Hoiana Hotel, New World Hoiana Beach Resort, and the upcoming Rosewood Hoi An, close to Hoiana Residences.
The resort boasts an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the Hoiana Shores Golf Club – the sole golf course in Vietnam and the lone representative from Asia to be named one of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the world 2023 by Today’s Golfer Magazine.
