The six-kilometer road will be 60 meters in width and have a design speed of 60 kph, according to a city proposal submitted to the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday.

Cat Lai Port is crucial for the import and export of goods to and from HCMC and the southern key economic zone.

The route begins on Nguyen Thi Dinh street in District 2, travels past Nguyen Thi Tu street, the canals of Ba Cua and Ong Nhieu, and ends at the intersection of Ring Road 3 and HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.

The section from the start to Nguyen Thi Tu street will be above ground while the section from Nguyen Thi Tu to Ring Road 3 will be elevated.

At Phu Huu Port, the route will include two branches for cars to enter and exit.

This is a designated road that primarily serves cargo vehicles entering and exiting the Cat Lai and Phu Huu ports, helping to share the traffic load and ease congestion on the nearby streets of Nguyen Thi Dinh, Dong Van Cong in District 2, and Nguyen Duy Trinh in District 9.

Based on the principle of continuous traffic flow, vehicles on the route will be organised to travel from the port area to Ring Road 3, Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway, and vice versa.

Cat Lai in District 2 is currently the largest port in the country, accounting for approximately 85% of southern port container freight and 50% of the country's total.

Phu Huu or Tan Cang-Phu Huu, about three kilometers from Cat Lai, is a seaport on Dong Nai River. It is located in Phu Huu ward, District 9 and has good connections with Ring Road 2 and Ho Chi Minh-Long Thanh Expressway through Nguyen Duy Trinh and Nguyen Thi Dinh streets via Cat Lai Terminal.

The port is extremely busy, causing traffic congestion and complication along surrounding streets.
