Vsico Maritime JSC on Saturday broke ground on two wharves in Thua Thien-Hue province's Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone, with total investment of VND1.67 trillion ($67.3 million).

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Vsico Hue wharves No. 4 and No. 5 will be parts of the Chan May port cluster, which is considered the closest and most convenient gateway to the East Sea for the East-West economic corridor, connecting central Vietnam with Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, other Asian countries and the world.

The cluster is located in the center of Vietnam, between the two largest localities in the central region: Thua Thien-Hue province and Da Nang city.

According to Vu Duc Hue, managing director of Vsico, the two wharves will cover 20.4 hectares with total length of 540 meters. They will be capable of accommodating cargo ships of up to 70,000 tons and container ships of up to 4,000 TEUs.

The project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2025 before going into operation in early 2026. It is expected to handle 80,000 to 100,000 TEUs per year, he said.

On the same day, provincial authorities granted an in-principle nod to the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park JV Co. Ltd. (VSIP) to build a VND7 trillion ($280.4 million) VSIP industrial park. The IP, called La Son, is expected to span 500 hectares in the first phase.

The province also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hue International Central Hospital No.2 under the Hue Central Hospital.

With an investment of nearly VND400 billion ($16 million), the hospital will have a total floor area of 21,000 square meters, with 300 beds meeting international (five-star) standards. Construction of the hospital is expected to be completed in 2026.
