Party Central Committee's Secretariat has new permanent member

Truong Thi Mai, head of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission, has been assigned by the Politburo, the Communist Party's premier decision-making body, to be permanent member of the committee's Secretariat.

With the new assignment, Mai replaced Vo Van Thuong who was appointed State President last Thursday. 

Mai has been a Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission.

Truong Thi Mai, 65, holds a master's degree in public administration, a bachelor's degree in history and a bachelor's degree in law. Her native place is in Hien Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, the central province of Quang Binh. 

She is a member of the Politburo for two consecutive terms 12th and 13th; member of the Party Central Committee for four terms from 10th to 13th; member of the National Assembly for six terms from 10th to 15th; and deputy head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-corruption.

Mai is the first female permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat since 1976.

From 2022 to 2016, she worked for the National Assembly (NA), being Vice Chairwoman of the legislative body's Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children.

In January 2016, Mai was elected as Party Central Committee member. At the first meeting of the 12th Party Central Committee, she was elected to the 12th Politburo.

In January 2016, she was appointed a Politburo member and was assigned by the Politburo to join the Party Central Committee's Secretariat and hold the position of Chairwoman of the committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation.

At the 13th National Party Congress in 2021, Mai was re-elected as a member of the Party Central Committee for the 2021-2026 tenure and elected to the Politburo until now.

In April 2021, she was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Chairwoman of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission.

The Secretariat is established by the Party Central Committee, consisting of the General Secretary, a number of Politburo members assigned by the Politburo, and members of the Secretariat elected by the Party Central Committee.

The Secretariat leads the daily work of the Party, including: directing Party building work and work related to the masses; inspecting and supervising the implementation of the Party's resolutions and directives on economy, society, national defense, security and foreign affairs; directing the coordination of activities among organizations in the political system; deciding on a number of organizational and personnel issues and other issues as assigned by the Party Central Committee; directing or inspecting the preparation of issues to be discussed and decided by the Politburo.
