Vietnam assigns vice chairman to take charge of parliament
National Assembly standing Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Man has been tasked with running the national parliament after Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue was dismissed from his position.

An extraordinary National Assembly meeting Thursday afternoon took the decision to dismiss Hue from the positions of chairman of the parliament, member of the National Security and Defense Council and member of the legislative body.
The National Assembly Standing Committee then assigned Tran Thanh Man to head the committee as well as the National Assembly until related personnel issues are settled.
Man, 62, holds a doctorate in economics. He is a Party Central Committee member for its 11th-13th tenures, Secretary of the 12th Party Central Committee, a member of the 13th Politburo - the country's highest decision making body, and a National Assembly member for the 13th-15th terms.
Before being elected Vice Chairman of the National Assembly in April 2021, Man was Chairman of the Can Tho city People's Committee, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
The National Assembly currently has four vice chairmen including Man, the others being: Nguyen Duc Hai, Nguyen Khac Dinh, and Tran Quang Phuong.
Previously, on April 26, the Party Central Committee accepted the resignation of Vuong Dinh Hue, a member of the Poliburo, and chairman of the National Assembly.
Hue also resigned from the Party Central Committee, the Party Central Committee Office said in a statement after an extraordinary committee session.
The committee said reports from the Central Inspection Committee and other relevant agencies show that Hue violated the Party members' code of conduct and regulations on the responsibility of cadres and Party members to set a good example.
His violations and shortcomings "caused bad public opinion, affecting the reputation of the Party, the State, and himself". Aware of his responsibility to the Party, the State and the people, Hue submitted his resignation, the committee stated.
