On the same day, PM Pham Minh Chinh also disciplined and removed Nguyen Chi Hien from the position of acting vice chairman of the south-central province for work violations and shortcomings.

Previously, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat had taken disciplinary action against the duo.

In mid July, the Central Inspection Committee concluded that Phu Yen Chairman Tran Huu The and many other local officials had committed violations, causing serious consequences to the point of having to face disciplinary action.

“The leaders of Phu Yen's Party Committee violated the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations; lacked responsibility, showed loose leadership and direction, and lacked inspection and supervision.”

As a result, many organizations and individuals violated the Party’s regulations and the State’s laws on management and use of state land and property, forests and mineral resources; on investment and procurement of medical equipment and materials; and on organizing civil employee recruitment exams for the year 2017-2018.

A number of officials and Party members, including key leaders of the Phu Yen people's committee, were punished as criminals.
