The seminar is attended by information security experts and state agency officials in charge of information safety and security.

They are expected to highlight information security breaches in the stock sector as well as propose recommendations to help minimize risks and better protect investors’ interests.

The event is taking place after an international organization launched ransomware attacks on VNDirect Securities’ information system late last month, freezing the firm’s trading platforms and harming its clients’ interests.

The incident has been deemed serious as VNDirect is the third largest broker on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, home to the country’s largest listed firms. It oversees VND83.3 trillion ($3.33 billion) worth of listed financial assets, and the attack has harmed investor sentiment.

The stock market has instructed securities companies to urgently strengthen cybersecurity and fix any vulnerabilities.

Data protection is gaining more relevance as the government doubles down on efforts to upgrade the stock market status from a "frontier" to an "emerging" market.
