Vietnam fourth largest host of Apple suppliers in the world

Vietnam hosted 35 Apple suppliers as of the end of fiscal year 2023, up from 25 a year earlier, the American tech giant says.

Vietnam hosted 35 Apple suppliers as of the end of fiscal year 2023, up from 25 a year earlier, the American tech giant says.

The “Apple Supplier List” represents 98% of direct spending for materials, manufacturing and assembly of Apple products worldwide for fiscal year 2023, it adds.

Mainland China housed the biggest number of Apple suppliers (158), followed by Taiwan (48), and Japan (42). Other major locations for Apple suppliers were Vietnam (35), South Korea (33), the U.S. (26), Thailand (24), Singapore (23), Malaysia (19) and India (14).

According to the report, Vietnam is home to 38 facilities run by 35 suppliers. Three suppliers with two facilities each are Biel Crystal Manufactory Limited with facilities in Bac Ninh and Hai Duong provinces, Luxshare Precision Industry Company Limited with establishments in Bac Giang and Nghe An provinces, and Murata Manufacturing Company Limited with units in Danang city and Tien Giang province.

Prominent among the remaining suppliers are BYD Company Limited (Phu Tho province), Compal Electronics Incorporated (Vinh Phuc province), GoerTek Incorporated and Samsung Electronics (Bac Ninh province), Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Limited (Bac Giang province), Intel Corporation (Ho Chi Minh City), LG Display Company Limited and LG Innotek Company Limited (Hai Phong city), Quanta Computer Incorporated (Nam Dinh province), and Sharp Corporation (Binh Duong province).

In its “People and Environment in Our Supply Chain” report for 2022, Apple had said that in Vietnam, “70% of employees at participating suppliers are women.”

Apple announced plans to increase investments in manufacturing hub Vietnam as CEO Tim Cook began a two-day visit to the country last Monday. The tech heavyweight noted that it has spent nearly VND400 trillion ($15.88 billion) since 2019 via supply chains in Vietnam, and more than doubled annual spending in the country during the same period.

Receiving Cook in Hanoi, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the country appreciated  Apple’s investments that have generated 200,000 jobs and that a working group will be set up to further support its activities in the country.
