Nguyen Duy Ngoc appointed Hanoi's Party chief

Nguyen Duy Ngoc, a Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, was assigned by the Politburo - the country's highest decision-making body - to be Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, the highest position in the capital city, for the 2025-2030 term.

Ngoc succeeds Bui Thi Minh Hoai, who was assigned by the Politburo to be Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organizations for the 2020-2025 term.

Nguyen Duy Ngoc, 61 years old, has a master of laws. His hometown is Hung Yen province. He is a Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and a member of the 13th Politburo.

Ngoc worked for many years at the Hanoi Police, holding the positions of chief of Thanh Tri district Police; head of the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department (2009-2011); chief of the Office of the Investigation Police Agency (2012-2013); deputy director of the city Police Department (March 2013-November 2016).

Ngoc later held the position of deputy director of the General Department of Police, and then director of the Department of Investigation Police on Crimes of Corruption, Economic Crimes, and Smuggling (C03) under the Ministry of Public Security.

In August 2019, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Security, and was promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant General at the end of 2023.

In June 2024, he was appointed chief of the Party Central Committee Office. In January 2025, he was elected by the Party Central Committee to the Politburo and held the position of Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee.

Hanoi currently has four deputy Party chiefs, including Nguyen Van Phong (57 years old), Tran Sy Thanh (54), Nguyen Trong Dong (56), and Phung Thi Hong Ha (54).
