Nguyen Van Duoc elected HCMC Chairman
Nguyen Van Duoc, deputy Party chief of Ho Chi Minh City, was elected Chairman of the southern economic hub on Thursday.

Duoc, 57, replaced Phan Van Mai, who had been elected by the National Assembly as Chairman of the legislature's Finance and Economic Committee on Tuesday.
Nguyen Van Duoc was elected with 83 votes out of 84 people present at a working session of HCMC People's Council.
He was assigned by the Politburo, the country's supreme decision-making body, to be deputy Party chief of HCMC on Tuesday while being Party chief of the neighboring province of Long An.
Duoc has a master's degree in geology and has worked in Long An for a long time.
In his action program, he promised to work with other People's Committee leaders to well implement breakthrough solutions to achieve 2020-2025 socio-economic targets. The focus is on GRDP growth of 8.5% in 2025 and preparing conditions for the city to reach and exceed 10% in the following years.
The Standing Committee of HCMC People's Committee now has Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc and five Vice Chairpeople, namely Duong Ngoc Hai, Vo Van Hoan, Bui Xuan Cuong, Nguyen Van Dung, and Tran Thi Dieu Thuy.
