The trading value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) on Friday hit over VND18.3 trillion ($779.3 million), up nearly 33% from the previous session and the highest level since December 6, 2022.

The top five stocks in terms of trading value are all from the banking-finance group, namely SSI of Saigon Securities, MBB of MBBank, SHB of Saigon-Hanoi Bank, VND of VNDirect Securities, and STB of Sacombank.

Strong cash flow helped Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index soar over 12 points, or 1.15%, to 1,090.84, the highest level in four months (since January 31).

The major bourse saw up to 245 gainers, including 13 hitting their ceiling prices, and 150 losers, with more than 1 billion shares changing hands.

Blue chips were the main force pushing up the VN-Index as their VN30 index surged 18.87 points to 1,086.96, with up to 23 tickers rising and only four declining.

Banking codes were the biggest contributors to the market rally as all rose 1% against their reference levels. Among the 10 stocks with the most positive impact on the VN-Index, eight came from this group, including TCB of Techcombank, VCB of Vietcombank, MBB, BID of BIDV, CTG of VietinBank, VIB of Vietnam International Bank, VPB of VPBank, and SSB of SeABank. Notably, VIB hit its ceiling price of VND23,050 ($0.98).

Securities, steel and fertilizer tickers also showed positive performance while real estate and construction groups were under selling pressure.

Foreign investors were net sellers on the HoSE for the fourth consecutive session to the tune of more than VND250 billion ($10.65 million). VPB was net sold most with a value of VND90 billion ($3.83 million), followed by VNM of Vinamilk, STB, and HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse rose 2.06 points to 226.03, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market expanded 0.45 points to 83.96.

For the whole trading week of May 29-June 2, the VN-Index had four sessions gaining and only one decreasing, earning 27 more points compared to the previous week. The major bourse’s liquidity improved significantly from the past three months, with no session recording trading value below VND13.5 trillion ($574.9 million).
