U.S. peaches and nectarines have received market access approval by relevant authorities for import into Vietnam.

The California Fresh Fruit Association will host events in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this month to celebrate this milestone in the bilateral trade relations between the U.S. and Vietnam, the U.S. embassy announced on Tuesday.

The California fruits will be available in Hanoi and HCMC in the coming weeks.

“This market access is a big win for our two nations. Vietnam’s citizens will now have access to high quality and delicious California peaches and nectarines, and producers in the U.S. have new markets to sell their produce,” said Jenny Lester Moffitt, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs.

“The U.S. and Vietnam have been strong trading partners, and this is yet another example of our work is facilitating safe and resilient trade. I am grateful to our USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and our partners at the [Vietnamese] Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, who have both worked diligently to facilitate the opening of this market,” she added.

In the September 2023 Joint Leaders’ Statement on the Elevation of U.S.-Vietnam Relations, both nations pledged to create favorable conditions and facilitate the further opening of markets for each other’s goods and services, supporting trade and economic policy, and regulatory measures to achieve this aim.

Last year, the U.S. granted market access to Vietnamese coconuts.
