The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has licensed budget carrier Vietjet Air to launch a Quang Ninh-Can Tho service next Tuesday, according to the Department of Tourism in Quang Ninh province, northern Vietnam.

The route is expected to have three return flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with one flight per day and a flight time of about 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The new service is expected to facilitate cargo and passenger transportation between Quang Ninh and the Mekong Delta, home to Can Tho city, enhancing Mekong Delta products' availability in northern Vietnam and China as Quang Ninh borders the neighboring country.

Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh currently has two domestic flights from Van Don-Da Nang and Van Don-Ho Chi Minh City operated by Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways.

Put into operation in 2018, Van Don Airport has modern infrastructure, qualified to serve domestic and international flights. Its designed capacity is about 10 million passengers per year.

Quang Ninh province is home to several popular tourist destinations like Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, the Yen Tu relic site, and other islands.

Budget carrier Vietjet Air on April 13 launched a new route connecting Sydney with HCMC with three return flights per week. Flights depart Sydney on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and return from HCMC on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

In January, the carrier opened a new direct route connecting HCMC and Melbourne.

In mid-March, Vietjet said it will launch the first-ever direct flights connecting Vietnam to the Australian state of Queensland this June. The airline will operate services between HCMC and Brisbane Airport from June 16 every Monday and Friday.
